New S/M Pokémon and Other Stuff!

Just found this on Bulbapedia. New Pokémon and Sun/Moon features!

So we have more info on Mimikyu and Bewear from my last S/M post, along with four new guys! Including one that looks like a lei? Wow.

Also, Hyper Training to alter IVs. There you go, you competitive types! I won’t be using it because I don’t do that kind of training with my ‘mons.

And that’s it for this time.

The yearly hummingbird arrived

Every year, at least once guaranteed, a hummingbird will fly into the porch or the house and get stuck. It happens every year without fail.

Today was that day this year.

I had just come in from jumping on the trampoline out back to fill up my water bottle. I’ve got it half filled when mom starts yelling. I freeze up, looking for whatever it is mom is yelling about. Something zips over my head, bonking itself on our recently-repainted, textured ceiling.

It was a little female Ruby-throated Hummingbird.

So mom’s running to grab the gloves and the brooms while I’m walking between the living room and the kitchen, keeping track of it. The living room ceiling fan was instantly shut off to protect it. Once we had our tools, we began what we always do in this situation–hold the brooms close to the ceiling and attempt (poorly) to corral the (panicking) hummingbird to the front door, through the porch, and out the door back into the outdoors.

We run around, corralling this poor bird for almost ten minutes, stopping to let it land on the kitchen light a few times to rest so it didn’t drop dead from stress. There were many, many, many failed attempts to get it to the porch door. Mom is frustrated, I’m tired, and the bird is probably thinking it was going to get squished any second now.

Then it lands on mom’s broom.

With my broom hovered over hers, we shove it into the porch and close the house door. One room down, one left. The porch has a lower ceiling, making it much easier to reach. Unfortunately, mom’s craft and work junk is piled everywhere so maneuverability is extremely difficult.

With the insect netting torn from the porch door for a clean exit, we again corral the hummingbird toward the open door to freedom. This takes about two minutes and a dozen failed attempts before it (again) lands on mom’s broom. It then zipped outside and landed on mom’s clothesline for her tie-dye shirts.

Mom and I are standing there, holding our brooms out in the hopes of preventing it from coming back in. It preens its shoulder, shakes off, and then flies across the yard and into the woods.

The insect netting it put back up, the gloves are returned to the work bench in the garage, and the brooms go back in the closet. Business as usual again.

At least I have the perfect excuse to avoid going outside to finish jumping. I’m tired as heck…

The wilderness is encroaching on me

So, both of our dogs were put to sleep last spring because they were too old to live happy and comfortable lives. That summer, nothing too odd happened without their presence.

This summer, we’re seeing a lot of wild animals we either haven’t seen since before we got the dogs…or plain haven’t seen at all.

  1. Our cat caught a weasel last month. We’ve never seen them before despite knowing they live in the area. It was just this tiny brown thing that looked like a mini version of our ferrets.
  2. The raccoons that visit our back deer feeder have begun to appear in the yard directly. Before, they never strayed past the feeder and hung out in the woods. Just last week, one climbed up on our front porch to knock over the garbage can. Mom almost stepped on him when she went out there. It was scary.
  3. Two nights ago, I went to let the cat out on the front porch. I turned on the porch light and there was a black and white head sticking out from between the steps. It was a skunk. I haven’t seen one for almost ten years in our yard. If you didn’t guess, I threw the cat back inside and closed the door.
  4. We’ve just noticed our woodpecker feeder on the front corner of our porch is gone. Not knocked to the ground or anything. Gone, cage and all. We can’t find it anywhere. The birdfeeder and hummingbird feeder in front of the living room window, across from the woodpecker feeder and nearest to the house, was torn from its hook and emptied on the ground below the window. Mom’s garden to those feeders is trampled. The wind might’ve knocked the window feeders down…but the woodpecker feeder? That thing is heavy. No way the wind knocked that down. Mom is scared we might have a bear or something due to the garden. We know both feeders were fine yesterday and neither of us heard any strange noises during the night. We’re both worried about it.

So yeah, lots of interesting stuff happening lately. Also scary stuff. I sleep by a window in my room, facing the woods. I’m not so comfortable there suddenly after the birdfeeder thing…

If anyone in the upper Minnesota area has any ideas of what could’ve knocked down the feeders besides wind, it’d be helpful. I’m hoping it was just raccoons jumping from the porch rail…but that wouldn’t bring down the woodpecker feeder…

New Sun/Moon Pokemon

Yes, I know that I’m late. I’m sorry. Life is busy.

Saw this yesterday briefly on Youtube but it was late at night so I didn’t dig up more until now. I love this thing!

Also, to avoid regurgitating info that you likely already heard, this and this are for the other seven revealed on June 30th and when their English names, along with the ones for the rock puppy and koala, were revealed on July 1st.

Definitely picking the cat starter and having the mongoose and the new lizard guy in my S/M party.
